Graceball: The Story of Bobby Richardson

Discussion Event
Date:
Thursday, October 17, 2024
Time: 5:30 pm
Location:
Sumter Opera House, 21 North Main Street, Sumter, SC 29150

South Carolina ETV, the ETV Endowment and the City of Sumter invite you to a celebration of the new film Graceball, which chronicles Bobby Richardson’s inspiring career in baseball, his profound witness to his faith and his service to his community. Born and reared in Sumter, Bobby went on to play second base for the New York Yankees for ten seasons and, on returning to his home state, helped transform a fledgling baseball program at the University of South Carolina into one of the top programs in the nation.

The documentary, funded by the Williams Brice Edwards Charitable Trust and the ETV Endowment of South Carolina and presented by SCETV, tells the story of the prolific career and character of Richardson, affectionately known as “Preacher.” After a brief reception in the City Centre, we’ll gather in the Sumter Opera House for a welcome by Sumter Mayor, David Merchant, and will watch the one-hour documentary. Then, we’ll hear from the now 87-year-old Bobby himself along with Executive Producer Eric Davis of Susie Films. You won’t want to miss this special evening to celebrate baseball and a man exceptionally committed to faith, family and community.

Special thanks to the Williams Brice Edwards Charitable Trust and ETV Endowment members for sponsoring the film and to the City of Sumter for hosting our event in the beautiful Sumter Opera House
