SCETV is a Family Affair for This Intern

I'm a Columbia native and am currently an undergraduate student at USC, majoring in Media Arts. 

My father has worked in broadcasting his entire life, and he instilled in me a love for public radio and television from a young age. I think it's an essential tool for the people of South Carolina, and all states, because it's an unbiased source that informs them about news, current events, and historical and community events. It's free from commercial interests and delivered by a team of people from their own community.

Thanks to my dad, I grew up listening to NPR programs on the radio and watching PBS programs on TV. Over the years, I developed a keen interest in news and current events and grew up depending on SCETV and SC Public Radio for the best coverage of the news.

The daily NPR afternoon news program “All Things Considered” was the first news program I could identify as a young child and I have grown up with it as a part of my daily schedule. I look forward to the program each afternoon, which helps the final hours of the work day fly by as my mind is stimulated by the unmatched variety of stories and perspectives provided by this show.

So, when I had the opportunity to intern at SCETV, I jumped at the chance.

I am still in the process of discovering exactly where I want to be after I graduate from USC, but the environment here at ETV is exactly the kind of institution that I have hoped to work for in the future. Keeping up with current events and reporting them through various means of broadcasting, be it blogging, writing, a radio news story or a video field piece, ETV is just the kind of work environment I was looking for.

In my time outside of interning here, I enjoy reading and writing film reviews, blogging on my personal blog, and cooking a variety of healthy foods. I am proud to participate in the locally grown food movement here in South Carolina and do my best to support local farmers and grocers, which also provides me with better tasting and healthier foods, and supports the local economy at the same time.
