Reflecting on 2025 and the power of public media
As 2025 draws to a close, we are grateful for the continued support of our viewers and listeners across South Carolina. Your engagement allows SCETV to serve every community with trusted information, meaningful stories and lifelong learning opportunities. I am especially thankful for our supporters' belief in the power of public media and for our talented team, whose creativity, resilience and commitment have kept us moving forward, even through challenging times.
The power of public media is especially evident in our dissemination of news and weather-related information. Gov. Henry McMaster has proclaimed Nov. 30-Dec. 6 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week. On Dec. 1, SCETV will livestream the South Carolina Emergency Management Division's press conference to help residents stay informed and ready for winter weather. We deeply value our partnership with the Governor's Office and the South Carolina Emergency Management Division. Their collaboration is vital during times of emergency, ensuring that accurate, timely information reaches every corner of our state when South Carolinians need it most.
Viewers and listeners can look forward to several live events this month. On Dec. 6, Shortwave Kitsch Radio records a new episode at The Citadel's Capers Hall in Charleston. Then, on Dec. 11, the South Carolina Lede hosts a live taping in Mount Pleasant, offering a campaign trail update and a preview of the upcoming legislative session. Celebrating 25 years on the air, Walter Edgar's Journal will mark its anniversary with a special live broadcast on Dec. 12 at noon, featuring reflections and favorite moments from over the years.
On television, the new series Happiness premieres Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. If you missed the 59th Annual Governor's Carolighting, tune in for the re-broadcast on Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. Then, the month concludes with The St. Olaf Christmas Festival: Our Hope for Years to Come on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m., welcoming the joy and hope of the season.
I am excited for a new year defined by innovation, education and the continued expansion of local storytelling. We will build on our legacy by exploring new ways to reach audiences and elevating the voices and experiences that make South Carolina unique. With resilience as our foundation and sustainability as our guide, SCETV is prepared to grow stronger and serve even more deeply in the year ahead.
