My Public Media Story: Dawn Deck

By Dawn Deck

Some of my favorite memories involve public television. I was introduced to it during my childhood and I vividly remember watching Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers! I also remember watching the Lawrence Welk show when I visited with my great-grandmother on weekends. She loved hearing Mr. Welk sing traditional hymns.

My most memorable experience with SCETV was working behind the scenes during the taping of Antiques Roadshow Myrtle Beach and Charleston. It was enlightening to watch all of the work behind the scenes to make the production a success.

I have also made wonderful friends at SCETV and SC Public Radio and we spend a lot of time working together. We're a small staff of 14, all working together to manage over 37,000 members. We work very hard to provide the very best service to our members.

In the eight years I've worked for the Endowment, we have experienced exponential growth and continued excellence in the programming. As a result, I believe more people in our state will be encouraged to support the programs they enjoy and to help bring those programs to others. That's so important because many people in South Carolina don't have the opportunity to travel outside the state. However, programming available through public media offers exposure to fine cooking, worldwide news and current events, history, and travel! Our listeners and viewers can enjoy this programming right from their homes or cars. Public media provides a window to the world.

THANK YOU!  Your generosity is the foundation of the ETV Endowment, supporting the programs on SCETV and SC Public Radio.  It is because of loyal ETV Endowment members, like you, that everyone in our state has access to this key resource of education, news and entertainment.
