Looking Ahead: A New Year of Possibility
Dear Viewers and Listeners,
I truly believe that January invites us to begin again — to reset our focus, renew our energy and recommit to the work that matters. It's the moment each year when we pause, look ahead and imagine what we can build together, both as individuals and as a statewide public media system. That spirit of renewal encourages us to sharpen our goals, embrace fresh ideas and reaffirm our responsibility to serve every community with integrity, creativity and care.
It's also a month when SCETV proudly brings viewers and listeners a vibrant slate of programming to inspire that sense of possibility. Great Performances — From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration 2026 airs Jan. 1 at 8 p.m., offering a festive start to the new year. New seasons of Miss Scarlet and All Creatures Great and Small also arrive this month, along with the premiere of Bookish, a new mystery series following a bookseller as he helps post-war London police solve crimes.
Then, ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 19, Marked Man: Martin Luther King and the FBI airs Jan. 18 at 5 p.m., exploring J. Edgar Hoover's relentless pursuit of Dr. King. On Jan. 25 at 5 p.m., Dreams of Hope tells the story of a historic concert held more than 50 years after the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing. The concert's use of violins restored from Holocaust concentration camps also offers a poignant connection to International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In recognition of that observance on Jan. 27, Last Musician of Auschwitz airs Jan. 26 at 9 p.m., sharing the story of prisoners who used music as resistance and testimony.
As the legislative session begins this month, SCETV provides transparent access to House, Senate and committee discussions through online livestreams and broadcasts of State House Today on ETV World. In addition, SC Public Radio provides news coverage, and the South Carolina Lede, State House Gavel and This Week in South Carolina share the latest developments.
Thank you for supporting SCETV as we begin another meaningful year together.
