Elevating stories of community, resilience and perseverance
Dear Viewers and Listeners:
From a young child, I've always believed that storytelling — whether through words or through the lens — is essential to capturing the perspectives that define who we are and how we understand one another. I am incredibly proud of the work we are doing at South Carolina ETV and SC Public Radio, where we elevate the stories of community, resilience, perseverance and perspectives that might otherwise go untold. These are the narratives that shape not only our local communities, but also our state, our country and even our place in the world.
For many, we serve as a vital window to that world — offering insight, connection and understanding across differences and distances. Above all, our mission remains clear: to educate and inform through the power of media, ensuring that every story we share has the potential to enlighten, inspire and bring people closer together.
In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, SCETV presents programming that honors creativity, perseverance and cultural legacy. Life Reimagined: The George Masa Story premieres May 7 at 10 p.m. on the South Carolina Channel, tracing the life of a Japanese immigrant whose photography helped define the Great Smoky Mountains. On May 11 at 8 p.m. on the South Carolina Channel, Touching the Sound follows pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii's remarkable journey from childhood to international acclaim.
Across the month, viewers can also enjoy new seasons and premieres that highlight storytelling and Southern perspectives. Books by the River returns for season 2 on May 10 at 5 p.m. on ETV, while Reel South debuts its eleventh season May 11 at 9 p.m. on ETV. Curiosity Trek! launches season 3 May 19 across SCETV's digital platforms, and new episodes of SC Public Radio's interactive game show Who What When continue to engage listeners.
In addition to our cultural and educational programming, and as the full legislative session concludes May 14, SCETV remains committed to providing gavel-to-gavel coverage and public affairs programming that keeps South Carolinians informed throughout the year.
Your support plays a vital role in making programs possible, and Public Media Giving Days on May 1 and 2 offer a meaningful opportunity to support the work of SCETV. Every contribution helps ensure we can continue to amplify, educate and strengthen South Carolina through the work we do every day.
Through impactful programming and your support, these stories remind us of the strength found in heritage, the guidance of those who came before us and the shared connections that shape our future.
