A Childhood Watching PBS and a Future Behind the Scenes

Lauren Lanier

My name is Lauren Lanier and I am from Indian Land South, Carolina. I am currently enrolled at York Technical College, where I am finishing up my last two semesters toward my Associate Degree in Teleproduction. I'm a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, where I'm we organize community service events. In addition to helping those in need, I'm also a mom to my four-year-old daughter, who is my main motivation to achieve my goals.

A Childhood with PBS

As a child, I grew up watching educational cartoons on PBS, such as the Magic School Bus and Arthur. I think public media, especially on SCETV, is very resourceful to the people in South Carolina to learn the hidden facts of our state’s history. It helps keep the community involved and knowledgeable about the area.

A Future Behind the Scenes

My favorite show is the Walking Dead. I’ve been following the series since the beginning and ever since I have learned about the behind-the-scenes aspect of television through York Tech, I've wanted to help film and produce shows like that. I would love to help create the visual graphics as well. After this internship, I would love to do graphic design and visual graphics for television. I hope to one day land a job with Disney in the field of Teleproduction.

For now, I'm really enjoying the hands-on experience here at SCETV. I believe what I am learning here will help me develop my creative skills including working with the DSLR and learning how to be a better writer for blogs.
